I have trained in TaeKwon-Do under Mr Mowatt since 2009, starting as a white belt and achieving my Black Belt in 2013 and subsequently my Second Dan Black Belt in October 2015. In that time I have often helped out in training with demonstrating and eventually in the capacity as qualified assistant instructor from June 2015 and completing my full instructor status in December 2015. I also have basic umpire’s qualifications and am looking to work up to referee alongside my training for Third Dan. I have represented the club in various competitions from regional, National and the World Championships in sparring, team tag sparring, patterns and destruction.
I really enjoy helping in class and instructing in general. I have always been involved with training and development throughout my career and personally, including being a Rugby Youth Coach in the past. I strongly believe that Taekwon-Do is for everyone, of all ages, ability and fitness. When I started back in 2009 I was unfit, overweight and into my 40’s having never seriously trained in a martial art before. I was soon feeling fitter, stronger and more confident and I see this in everyone who starts with our Club and I am extremely pleased and honoured to now be part of Mr Mowatt’s team of instructors. The TAGB is an incredible organisation and I have many friends all over the country that I have trained with, sparred or learnt with.
It is my aim as an instructor to encourage each student to experience the same enjoyment and successes as I have; to help each individual achieve their own goals, to the best of their ability whether that is to compete, get fit, be more confident, defend themselves but at the same time having fun while doing it.
